The Best Lightsabers in Star Wars History

No doubt, lightsabers are the coolest weapon in the Star Wars Saga. Those glowing blades cutting through the best of droids are breathtaking like we watched at the ending of "The Mandalorian Season 2." In which Luke Skywalker showed up and sliced up a platoon of 3rd generation droids like a cake. Not that but many more instances again and again.

While we keep watching Jedis and Siths exhibiting their skills infused with lightsabers. One may wonder, are all the lightsabers equally powerful? If not, what are the best lightsabers in Star Wars history? Let's get into the details of some of the best lightsabers in Star Wars history.

  • Inquisitor's Lightsaber

If you are all caught up with the "Star Wars: Rebels" series, you know that Inquisitor's lightsabers are a treat to sight.

Inquisitors are Force-sensitive people apprentices to Siths, just like a Padawan are an apprentice of Jedi. We have seen at least three Inquisitors in the Rebels series. They are very powerful beings and very skilled in lightsaber duels. Even Jedi like Kanan Garrel are so good, and Ahsoka Tano had a hard time fighting them.

So, what is so special about their lightsabers? Well, the very first thing is their lightsabers' design. Like the Sith, they also wield red lightsabers, and apparently, they look like double-bladed lightsabers but advanced. A hilt in the centre with blades on both sides. However, unlike Maul's lightsaber, their hilt was extremely advanced, and they could rotate their lightsabers like a wind fan without using their hands.

All of the three Inquisitors wielded the same Type of lightsabers. Another special thing about their lightsabers was that they could easily separate the middle of the hilt and divide their lightsaber into two.

I rank them in the best lightsabers because of their ability to assist their wielder more than any other lightsaber.

  • Kylo Ren's Lightsaber

Just like Master Yoda said, "There is always two Sith, a Master and an Apprentice." Kylo Ren was one of those Jedis who fell to the dark side because of his fears. After becoming an apprentice to Snoke, he initiated the first order and threatened the new Republic.

Even considered a villain, some Siths are just very cool and wield amazing lightsabers. The lightsaber Kylo Ren wielded was Cross-Guard type. This lightsaber has a big hilt with two extra plasma mini blades coming out of the corners of the hilt. This lightsaber looks like a big sword with a long blade. One of the reasons why it is one of the best lightsabers in Star Wars history is how rare we see it used by the Jedi or Sith.

Since lightsabers are supposed to be light, this one was not easy to control as its hilt has some weight. Very few Jedi in history have used a Crossguard lightsaber. Kylo Ren used it proficiently every time against Rey, as we watched in Episodes 7,8, and 9.

A special feature of Kylo Ren's lightsaber is that his blade shape was not consistent. The plasma was not confined to the blade but was emitting out of the blade. The reason for his unpredictable lightsaber behaviour was his cracked Kyber crystal.

Kylo Ren's Crossguard lightsaber was lost forever moments after turning to the light side and dying.

  • Ahsoka Tano's White Lightsabers

One of the coolest character-wielding coolest lightsabers is no surprise for me. Ahsoka was the main character of the Clone Wars series and had her story continued to Rebels. Her fate is still to be decided.

We watched in Clone Wars, the Apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, used two Curved-hilt green lightsaber. The curved-hilt lightsaber with one Shota type perfectly suited her special fighting style. Those lightsabers were changed to blue ones later by his master, and at the end of Clone Wars, she abandoned both of her blue lightsabers, but only to show up with a cooler one in the Rebel series.

Like her previous lightsabers, these were also curved-hilt but pure white blades. According to the officials, she took lightsabers from an inquisitor, purified them, and crafted her new lightsabers.

Some say that her white lightsabers symbolise her non-affiliation with Jedi or Sith. Nevertheless, her unique white lightsabers are definitely one of the best lightsabers in Star Wars history. She often proved it against Inquisitors, Maul, and even Darth Vader in Clone Wars, Rebels series, and even The Mandalorian series.

  • Darksaber

As the name implies, it is called a dark saber since this one's blade is dark instead of a lightsaber. Darksaber is not an ordinary saber to wield by Jedi or Sith. It has a deep history connected with the people of Mandalore.

Only one Mandalorian named Tarre Vizsla became a Jedi in the history of Mandalore, and he wielded this dark saber. He did the impossible to unite all the Mandalorian tribes. Not long after, he died, but his symbol was left behind. Since then, the Darksaber was considered as something Holy that could unite the Mandalorians again.

Anyone who wins it in a duel has the right to wield the Darksaber. We watched Maul win the lightsaber and keep it in Clone Wars. In the Rebel series, the Darksaber went into the hands of Sabine Wren, and after that, it goes to many others, and finally into the Hands of Din Djarin, who you may know as Mando, the protagonist of the Mandalorian series.

Darksaber is one of its kind. Its unique blade and its historical value to the Mandalorian tribes make it one of the best lightsabers in Star Wars history.

  • Mace Windu's Purple Lightsaber

The great Jedi master Mace Windu was the only one to wield a purple lightsaber. Different colours can have different meanings, like Ahsoka's white lightsabers representing her non-affiliations with Sith or Jedi. Similarly, red is for Siths, and blue is for Jedis.

Similarly, the purple lightsaber of Mace Windu symbolises his awareness of both the Light and Dark Side of the Force. Although he was a Jedi, he knew many Siths techniques.

A purple lightsaber is extremely rare in the Galaxy, Yet, Mace Windu wielded the purple lightsaber at an early age when he was sent on a mission by Master Yoda. He got this Kyber crystal as a gift from the Natives of that planet he was sent on.

His purple lightsaber was also lost in the depths of Coruscant after Palpatine killed him, or probably was destroyed after Order 66. Anyways, his lightsaber is always considered one of the best in Star Wars history.
